By Tooth and Claw

Starting off with a couple of in the works posts. I rarely post painting tutorials and the like. That is more the realm of my older brother. I can't say I haven't picked up a host of tips, techniques, or more importantly inspiration from my brother. But more or less I am a gamer and collector probably more than I am a painter/hobbyist. No kidding though, I have amassed some skill in the field though. First up here are the Highborn as they currently stand. So I thought it was time to work on some special kits to add a little beat stick to my infantry.I built two separate characters to ride my dragon. In the Aelf list, there are two casters or a noble on a dragon to field. I will swap bodies to represent which one I am rolling with. I wasn't sure what to do in terms of a color. So I am just slowly building up layers until I get where I want to be. I did have to fill a few gaps on him as well, but that was my fault for using super glue - not the kit. Ever gratefu...

Round We Go

So when it comes down to what is on my tabletop right now, I have been making a lot of progress. I decided that despite the 'bases don't matter' bit in Warhammer Age of Sigmar, I wanted to be an over achiever. I decided to move my elves to round bases. This is an army I have been slowly collecting. It all started oddly enough with a friend I was trying to get into the hobby. He started buying High Elves on eBay, and before long had more models than anyone would want to paint. Flash forward a little bit and he had given up. He said, "Do whatever you want with this stuff, I am not going to get around to doing anything with it." I posted most of it for sale on eBay and gave him the money from the auctions. I did end up keeping the Silver Helms, but that wasn't by design, more of less I was just tired of posting auctions. Then I met a guy a little further south in North Carolina who offered his services as a painter. The price was just too good to p...

Blind Painter

So I sat down and started working on the small unit of chaos space marine possessed I need to finish for my Khorne Daemonkin army. What I immediately realized is that when I am wearing glasses it is so much easier. I had some very cheap reading glasses I picked up and things are so much clearer. I have been trying to only paint in the morning because the light in my house was better. But damn- I could see everything. I could see the brush, the details on the models. For years now I hadn't realized my vision has been declining. It was like night and day. Like my technique is a lot better than I thought. They are coming right along. The only thing and I noticed this while only after working 15-20 minutes these cheap glasses produce way to much eye strain. While I was concentrating on what I was doing things got blurry quickly. I can put them on and focus initially, but they are not going to be good enough to use on a long term basis. Might need to make my first trip ever...

State of the Game

Sorry if I haven't been making as many posts recently. With summer winding down, I ended up hopping back into the world of MMORPG's. It is almost like you have time in your life for so many hobbies. The more time I spend on ArcheAge , the less active I am in other areas. My character is on Aranzeb if you ever want to check it out. Send a message to Maceo. I am going to work on a little more balance in the upcoming weeks and try to get back into doing more outside of this one particular game. But I'll just leaving this here in the mean time. Yeah, that is me with a trade pack on a skateboard.

Ranked Movement

I don't know what the deal is with all this. I saw another post where someone was 'fixing' 8th edition to put out a homebrew called 9th Age . It isn't that I don't applaud what they are doing if that is what they want to do. But I shudder to think about playing a system with errata, an upgraded magic system, and a host of special rules - no, for me simple is the key. I love what they've done with Age of Sigmar. The biggest argument that people make (despite the fact GW actually destroyed the world) is that it is no longer ranked combat in a heroic fantasy game. So while there were people playing Kings of War previous to this, now it is officially the Games Workshop Ranked Combat Battle System if you listen to the people posting on the interwebs. But why? Why do I have to play an entirely different system to use my models on movement trays? What else don't they like about it? Is it simply the wheeling and moving troops around in big blocks? Is it the...

Battle Report : Crimson Fist Gladius vs. Chaos Space Marines w/ Charnel Cohort

Before the game I generated powers for the daemon prince – from the Nurgle list I picked up the powerful two warp charge ability Plague Wind and from Biomancy I got Hemorrhage which I never actually got a chance to use. Being a daemon of Nurgle I also picked up Nurgle’s Rot as a chaos focus. I completely forgot about the Warlord traits, but it was both sides – so I wasn’t really stressing. Generally I also completely missed the Tactical Doctrines the marines have. It is either reroll 1’s or reroll misses, and that wasn’t happening all that much – I really want create some counters for that effect. It might help me remember it. My set up was pretty interesting. I crammed all the marines in a tight pack. The idea here was they can scatter out and that is exactly what I did on the first turn. I was excited about seeing how well they advanced and I know I made a few mistakes by not taking full advantage of my first turn shooting for the Crimson Fists. For my Chaos Marines and t...
